Chapter 1 introduces Grace Ashcroft as she awakens in the Rhodes Hill Care Center with no memory of how she arrived. This chapter focuses on stealth, exploration, and environmental storytelling while teaching the core mechanics you’ll use throughout the game.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

1. The Holding Room

After the opening cutscene, take control of Grace in a small medical room. Search the drawers for a Handgun Ammo pickup and read the patient file on the table for early lore. Exit through the only unlocked door.

2. East Wing Corridors

The East Wing is patrolled by slow, sound-sensitive enemies. Crouch-walk to reduce noise, and use the listening mechanic to track enemy positions through walls. Open the locker near the nurse station to find a healing item.

3. Flashlight and Light Mechanics

Your flashlight is both a tool and a weapon. Pointing it at the Shadow Ghost causes it to recoil, giving you time to escape. However, the flashlight battery drains during extended use, so toggle it off when safe. You can also turn on overhead lamps in some rooms to create safe zones.

4. The B934 Handgun

In the East Wing storage room, you’ll find the B934 on a metal shelf. This is Grace’s starting handgun. It has low damage but enough accuracy for headshots. Grab all nearby ammo before continuing.

5. First Shadow Ghost Encounter

The Shadow Ghost appears in the hallway after you restore power to the lights. You cannot kill it yet; instead, shine your flashlight on it until it staggers, then run past. Avoid sprinting unless necessary, as noise attracts other threats.

6. Exiting the East Wing

Use the East Wing Key found on the reception desk to unlock the door to the main corridor. This automatically saves your progress and ends the chapter.
