Grace discovers Emily in the Care Center isolation ward. Blind from human experimentation, she is literate in Braille.
The puzzle box buttons are worn to Braille — only Emily can read the code. Grace takes the Level 3 ID Wristband from the Security Manager's body in the Isolation Ward, then uses it to free Emily from her cell in the Medication Room.
During the escape, the crash kills Reed and severely injures Emily — a scripted story beat. She mutates and attacks Grace.
In the true (Hope) ending, Elpis cures Emily and Grace adopts her. In the alternate ending she is left trapped in her cocoon.
Grace, an FBI intelligence analyst, looks into the Care Center — where her mother Alyssa Ashcroft was murdered years earlier.
Grace finds Emily, a blind girl literate in Braille, in the isolation ward and becomes her protector.

In the true ending Leon is cured of his T-virus strain by Elpis; in the alternate ending he dies at Zeno's hands.
